JOHNNY MORANT (B.1982)
Johnny Morant is a London based artist concerned with figurative representations of light and space in oil. His last solo exhibition here at the Tryon Gallery comprised familiar views of London and rural scenes communicated through the representation of light. His ambition to employ light as a tool to describe space and form is demonstrated in his current work. His subject matter has extended from broad open scenes to encompass more intimate elements of interior and architectural environments. With each piece the apparent effortlessness of his brush strokes conceal a determined battle to harness the medium and capture the atmosphere.
Over recent years Johnny has consistently shown with the New English Art Club and the Royal institute of Oil Painters. He has been shortlisted for several prizes and was recently awarded the Green & Stone Prize For Best Oil Painting at the Chelsea Art Society Annual Exhibition. |
