Charlie Langton
Charlie Langton trained for a year at the Edinburgh College of Artand for a further year and half in Florence, at the Charles Cecil studio. It was here that he developed an appreciation for the work of the old masters and in particular Leonardo da Vinci. His understanding of his subject, design and technique is something that inspires him in his own work. Langton's portraits are drawn, painted and sculpted from life.
Langton learnt the true importance of this at Charles Cecil'sstudio. He believes that to capture a character, whether it is human or equine, it is necessary to study from life.
The underlying theme of Charlie Langton's work is to understand the form and portray it in varying mediums. Langton works in pencil, charcoal, chalk, oil, plaster, bronze, silver and soon, he hopes, marble. His work is grounded in the ethos of the old masters but he has his own interpretation of the subjects.
Langton's first one-man show was at the Tryon Gallery in 2008.This exhibition was an overwhelming success in both 2 and 3 dimensional forms and resulted in a number of commissions including the commission of six sculptures of horses for The Jockey Club. |
