Basil Ede
Born on 12th February 1931, Basil Ede studied at Kingston Art School, Surrey.
After national service in the army, he joined the Orient Steam Navigation Company as a purser.
It was whilst he was working for Cunard Line in London that he began to paint birds seriously. In 1964 he became a full-time painter, working in watercolour. He was greatly influenced by Thorburn until he developed his own style.
When a stroke disabled his right hand in 1989, he learned to paint with his left hand. At this point he changed from watercolour to oil painting. He was a regular Tryon exhibitor from 1960 to 1975.
He lives in East Sussex. |
