Alma Burlton Cull (1880-1931)
A highly regarded watercolourist and oil painter. Cull specialised in marine painting, especially Royal Navy ships. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, The Walker Art Gallery and the London Salon. Towards the end of his life he lived at Lee on Solent Hampshire. After his death in 1931 his widow continued to live there, placing most of his oils in storage at Portsmouth. These were unfortunately destroyed during the Second World War by enemy bombs. Examples of his work can be seen at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich. |
